Best Manufacturing ERP for Indian MSMEs (2026)
The best manufacturing ERP for an Indian MSME is the one that handles your production, inventory, job work and GST in one system and is implemented by people who stay with you. For most small and medium manufacturers of ₹10–500 crore turnover, that means an India-built manufacturing ERP whose own team implements and supports it.
Who it is for: This guide is for owners, CFOs and IT heads of Indian small and medium manufacturers — roughly ₹10–500 crore annual turnover — who are choosing their first manufacturing ERP or replacing one that didn't work.
Disclosure: Bsquare Solutions makes Pothera ERP, one of the options this guide discusses. We compare categories of ERP, not named vendors, and we say plainly where Pothera ERP is not the right fit.

Quick verdict — which type of ERP fits which manufacturer
| Micro manufacturer, under ₹10 crore, simple production | Accounting software with disciplined stock records, or a light cloud ERP. A full manufacturing ERP is usually more than you need yet. |
|---|---|
| Small manufacturer, ₹10–100 crore, BOMs, job work, multiple godowns | An India-built manufacturing ERP implemented by the vendor’s own team. This is the band where spreadsheets start costing more than software. |
| Medium manufacturer, ₹100–500 crore, several plants or product lines | An India-built manufacturing ERP or a global suite. Choose on implementation capacity and support depth, not feature lists. |
| Subsidiary of a multinational that mandates a group system | The global ERP suite your group uses, implemented by a partner. |
| Strong in-house IT team that wants to own the code | Open-source ERP — budget for the implementation, India localisation and support you will need to run yourself. |
Bsquare’s take
“Most ERP projects in Indian MSMEs do not fail on features. They fail in the handover between the company that sold the software and the people who have to make it work on the shop floor. Pick the team before you pick the screens.”
Five types of manufacturing ERP compared (2026)
Indian MSMEs choose between five categories of software. The table compares them on what matters to a manufacturer, not on brand.
| Criterion | Accounting software + Excel | Light cloud ERP / SME edition | India-built manufacturing ERP (vendor implements) | Global ERP suite (partner implements) | Open-source ERP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Production planning, BOM, MRP | Basic or none; usually done in Excel | Basic; strongest for trading | Built in, with Indian shop-floor practice | Built in; depth depends on licensed modules | Available; depth depends on configuration |
| Job work and ITC-04 | Manual tracking | Varies — check before you buy | Built in: challans, returns, material balance | Usually needs India localisation by the partner | Needs India localisation |
| GST, e-invoicing, e-way bills | Strong for accounting entries | Usually built in | Built in from sales order to dispatch | Through an India localisation pack | Through community or partner add-ons |
| Who implements | You | You, with online help | The vendor’s own team | A certified partner | You or an integrator |
| Who supports after go-live | Accountant or local dealer | Vendor helpdesk | The same team that implemented it | The partner, with escalations to the publisher | You or an integrator |
| Customisation to your process | Very limited | Limited to settings | Configuration plus custom work by the vendor | Possible, usually at partner rates | Unlimited if you have developers |
| Cost model | Low licence; high hidden cost in manual work | Published per-user subscription | Quoted per requirement | Licence or subscription plus partner fees | No licence fee; you pay for implementation and support |
| Typical best fit | Micro businesses | Traders, small stock-based businesses | Indian manufacturers of roughly ₹10–500 crore | Larger or multinational groups | Companies with strong in-house IT |
Which ERP fits your size band? (Revised MSME classes, 2025)
From 1 April 2025 the Government of India classifies enterprises by investment and annual turnover. The bands line up closely with how ERP needs change.
| MSME class (from 1 April 2025) | Investment up to | Turnover up to | What usually breaks first | Type of ERP that usually fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | ₹2.5 crore | ₹10 crore | Stock accuracy and receivables follow-up | Accounting software with clean stock records, or a light cloud ERP |
| Small | ₹25 crore | ₹100 crore | Production planning, job work, costing, multi-godown stock | India-built manufacturing ERP, implemented by the vendor |
| Medium | ₹125 crore | ₹500 crore | Multi-plant visibility, approvals, traceability, MIS | India-built manufacturing ERP, or a global suite if a group mandates it |
8 criteria to judge any manufacturing ERP
- Shop-floor fit: Can it run your BOMs, routings, work orders, scrap and rework the way your plant actually works — shown on your own data in the demo?
- Job work: Does it issue job-work challans, track material at the job worker and support ITC-04 without spreadsheets?
- Compliance in the flow: Are GST, e-invoices and e-way bills generated from the sales and dispatch flow, not re-keyed in accounts?
- Inventory truth: Batch, lot, heat or serial tracking, multiple godowns and real-time stock that stores and accounts both trust.
- Costing: Job and product costing that includes material, labour, overheads and scrap — so you know margin by order.
- One system: Sales, CRM, purchase, production, quality, HR and payroll and accounts on one database, not stitched together.
- Implementation model: Who exactly will implement, how many weeks, how data migrates, and who signs off each stage.
- Support after go-live: Whether the people who implemented it will answer your calls in year three.

Frequently asked questions about manufacturing ERP for MSMEs
Which is the best ERP for small manufacturing companies in India?
There is no single best ERP for every manufacturer. For most Indian small manufacturers with ₹10–100 crore turnover, BOMs and job work, an India-built manufacturing ERP implemented by the vendor’s own team is the safest choice, because production, inventory and GST work in one system and the implementer stays accountable.
Do MSMEs really need ERP, or is Tally enough?
Tally is enough while your main need is accounting and GST returns. Manufacturers usually outgrow it when they need production planning, BOM-based costing, job-work tracking, batch traceability or real-time stock across godowns. At that point the work moves into Excel, and an ERP becomes cheaper than the errors.
How much does a manufacturing ERP cost for an MSME in India?
It depends on the number of users, the modules, how much customisation you need, cloud or on-premise deployment and annual maintenance. Light cloud ERPs publish per-user prices; manufacturing ERPs are usually quoted per requirement. Pothera ERP is quoted per requirement after a demo on your process.
How long does ERP implementation take for a small manufacturer?
A focused implementation for a small or medium manufacturer typically takes 8–12 weeks when the vendor’s own team implements it. It takes longer with several plants, heavy customisation or poor-quality data to migrate.
Is cloud ERP safe for Indian manufacturers?
Yes, when the vendor hosts it on a reputable data centre with role-based access, encryption and regular backups. Most Bsquare customers choose cloud. Pothera ERP also runs on-premise for companies that prefer their own servers.
What are the MSME turnover limits from 2025?
From 1 April 2025, micro enterprises have turnover up to ₹10 crore and investment up to ₹2.5 crore; small enterprises up to ₹100 crore and ₹25 crore; medium enterprises up to ₹500 crore and ₹125 crore.
Should an MSME choose open-source ERP to save money?
Only if you have in-house developers to configure, localise and support it. Open-source ERP has no licence fee, but Indian GST, e-invoicing, job work and payroll usually need localisation, and you carry the support risk yourself.
What should I ask in an ERP demo?
Ask the vendor to run your own scenario: a sales order through production, a job-work challan, dispatch with an e-invoice and e-way bill, and the job cost at the end. Then ask who will implement it, for how many weeks, and who supports you after go-live.
